Auskick surprise for Australian Islamic College

Australian Islamic College students love their NAB AFL Auskick sessions.

Kicking, handballing and generally bouncing around like little beans, their laughter and shrieks of joy ring out across the school.

The school has embraced the Auskick program, so much so that they achieved the highest percentage, almost 50 per cent, of Gold Coast students engaged in the program.

To celebrate the achievement Gold Coast SUNS’ Adam Saad paid a surprise visit to the school to present them with a signed SUNS Guernsey; two signed footballs and lead them through an Auskick session.

One of three practising Muslims in the AFL, Saad has been a revelation for the SUNS, showing speed and skill in spades.

But for Saad, it’s also important for him to give back, and share his story with young Muslim students.

“It’s good to come out and connect with these kids and show them what footy it’s all about,” he said.

“I think this is extra special for me because this is an Islamic School as well, me being a Muslim it’s great getting to connect with the young Islamic kids.”
