Auskick A Triple Treat For Dunne Family

Watching triplets Jeremy, Zane and Zachary Dunne in action at a Beenleigh Buffaloes NAB AFL Auskick session you would think they didn’t have a care in the world.

The energetic trio giggle with delight watching mum Nicholl scramble to retrieve their wayward footballs and jump up and down excitedly when each new Auskick game is announced.

But in reality it’s been a tough time for the family who lost their house twice last year – once through storm damage and then again when fire ripped through the family home.

“It’s been really difficult on the kids,” said single mum-of-five Nicholl.

“We’ve been living with my parents and there has been a lot of disruption in their lives.”

Despite the loss, the family are determined to keep their spirits up and Nicholl says the Beenleigh Auskick sessions have played an important part in helping the family recover.

“Auskick has given them something to look forward to every week,” she said.

“They just love it … and each week they just can’t wait to see the coach and learn new skills.

“It’s really kept them positive and they feel that they are part of something great.”

Auskick Development Officer Marc Seen said the boys particularly enjoy it when Nicholl joins in the fun.

“They all want to have a kick with mum,” he said.

“She was so flat out chasing and retrieving their footballs during one session we had to coordinate for them to take it in turns!”

Things aren’t going to get less hectic on the Auskick field any time soon for mum, with brother Joshua and sister Millie keen to join the triplets in the program.

But that’s no problem for Nicholl.

“I love the fact that my kids love a game I grew up on,” she said.

“Auskick is a wonderful program and it’s really helped put a smile back on the kids’ faces.”
