Surfers Paradise pulled off an upset 10.12.72- 7.10.52 win over the Western Magpies on Saturday.

The Demons are the first team to really challenge the defending premiers, let alone best them, and in the process showed they will be in the mix in September.

Jacob Clark and Nicholas Barling shone in the upset victory, while Jake Ryan finished with three goals.

Jimmy Rozynski and Billy Moorhead again were the Magpies’ best, but it wasn’t enough to keep their undefeated streak going.

While the Magpies’ unbeaten run was ended, Springwood continued their super start to the year, with a comfortable15.8.98 – 8.12.60 win over Coolangatta.

After leading by only a point at the final change, the Pumas kicked seven goals to one in the final term to cement themselves at the top of the ladder, as one of only two unbeaten sides along with Wilston Grange.

At the other end of the ladder, Burleigh remains winless after a 20-point loss to Maroochydore, 16.8.104-12.12.84.

The Roos had something to prove, coming off a surprise loss to Sandgate last weekend, and held off a competitive Bombers side, after leading by only eight points at three-quarter time.

The fourth consecutive loss puts Burleigh at the bottom end of the ladder, as one of three winless teams, along with Noosa and Mayne.

It was another long weekend for Noosa, trounced by a hungry Palm Beach side, 21.15.141 – 2.13.25.

After a shock loss by Wilston Grange at home in round three, the Lions reaffirmed their status as a premiership contender, dominating all across the ground against the Tigers, whose only goals came in the second quarter.

Nathan Carr kicked six for Palm Beach, while Dean Shegog starred in the midfield.

The remaining round four matches will take place on Saturday, with UQ playing Sandgate and Wilston Grange taking on Mayne, in a local derby.
