AFL Queensland Level 3 Community Coaching Course

By Jack Barry.

AFL Queensland in conjunction with Coach AFL is looking to hold the first ever Queensland State based Level 3 Community Coaching Course.

This is a breakthrough in coach education for community coaches who now have an opportunity to further their coaching development in the men’s and women’s programs and enhance their opportunity to climb the coaching pathway.

Prior to COVID-19, the goal for Coach AFL was to provide more opportunities for coaches to obtain their level 3 accreditation. It was to be broken into three key areas;

  1. AFL Clubs
  2. State Leagues / Academy Coaches Head Coaches (VFL, QAFL -QAFLW Head Coaches, AFL Academy Head Coaches)
  3. Community Leagues –(QAFL-QAFLW Assistants, Community Head Coaches, School Senior Coaches)

Due to COVID at this stage groups one and two are merged and will run nationally with limited opportunity for Queensland coaches. These courses are based around high performance.

AFL Queensland Coaching and education Lead Jack Barry said states would now be able to run their own community course each each year.

“The state based community courses will blend parts of the high-performance course to ensure we are delivering quality community coaches and coach developers for the benefits of clubs and participants,” he said.

“I see this course ideal for the Level 2 community head coach, assistant coaches from the QAFL and QAFLW competitions and AFL Academies. School senior head coaches should also look to apply.”

Spots will be limited and based on the selection criteria.

“The Brisbane Lions and Gold Coast SUNS, along with our university’s lecturers and experienced Level 3 coaches we have in Queensland will provide plenty of best practice knowledge and examples in delivering a quality program,” added Barry.

“With potential COVID restrictions and wanting to provide an economical opportunity for country coaches in a large state, we will be running a three-day course face to face followed by delivering online content throughout the year both nationally and state based.”
