AFL Media is pleased to launch a new documentary series titled ‘Dynasties’ which will air on AFL On Demand on Thursday September 23.
The first instalment of Dynasties, titled ‘Actions To Live By’, focusses on the Brisbane Lions dynasty of the early 2000s, which coincides with the 20-year anniversary since the first Premiership in the Lion dynasty.
Featuring in-depth interviews with Brisbane Lions triple-AFL Premiership players Jason Akermanis, Simon Black and Jonathan Brown along with four-time AFL Premiership coach Leigh Matthews, the film shares the story of how the Brisbane Lions built its dynasty, rising from the wooden spoon to a three-year AFL Premiership streak.
The single feature-length documentary also explores the application of Leigh Matthews’ coaching philosophy and how he transformed a club based on three actions for his players to live by: pride, respect and trust.
AFL General Manager Digital, Sarah Wyse, said the new documentary series was another great opportunity for AFL Media to continue to connect with new and existing fans through storytelling.
“AFL Media is excited to launch the new ‘Dynasties’ series ahead of the 2021 Toyota AFL Grand Final which marks the 20th anniversary since the Brisbane Lions first began their Premiership dynasty.
“Over the last few years, AFL Media has increased its video content and digital offerings to engage with new and emerging fans through new platforms like AFL On Demand,” Ms Wyse said.
“We are committed to bringing our fans even closer to the game on platforms they love, and Dynasties is a great example of what fans can expect in the future.”
‘Actions To Live By’ will air tonight at 5pm (AEST) on AFL On Demand, with the next film in the series set to be released in 2022.
