Cadbury AFL 9s is making a mark on the Darling Downs, with record numbers taking part in the current season.
One highlight is the recently launched Warwick competition. Still celebrating the opening of their new player amenities building, the Warwick Redbacks are hosting a competition for the first time, which kicked off last week with 9 teams.
With competitions running in the Lockyer Valley, South Burnett, Warwick and Toowoomba the region has a number of competitions at which locals can get their summer footy fix, with both experienced and ‘rookie’ players joining in.
Darling Downs Regional Manager Keith Webb was excited by the response to AFL 9s in the area.
“It’s great to see so many people coming out for a kick when people are traditionally enjoying their off season. It’s a real testament to our footy community, especially considering these competitions are all being run by club volunteers.”
“The clubs have all chosen to run these competitions, and it has provided them with a great avenue to keep in touch with their players as well as introduce new players and partners to their clubs,” said Webb.
The Toowoomba and Lockyer Valley competitions have been running for the past month, while the South Burnett and Warwick competitions launched last week and are still open for any new players interested in playing.
