AFL 9s kicks off for 2013

After a hugely successful rookie year in 2012, Cadbury AFL 9s will be returning to the field over the next few weeks in Queensland, with competitions running throughout the state.

With greater demand for the game a number of locations will make their debut, including Caboolture, Ipswich, Labrador, Mt Gravatt, Nambour and Redcliffe.

AFL 9s will also be kicking off at a number of familiar locations, such as Cairns, the Sunshine and Gold Coasts, as well  Zillmere, Kedron, Wilston Grange, Toowoomba and the Lockyer Valley.

Queensland Community Programs Manager Bill Renner said that AFL 9s competitions provide a chance for everyone to play AFL.

“As we near the traditional AFL season a lot of kids get excited about returning to football, but with AFL 9s the mums and dads now have an easy and fun way to get involved,” Renner said.

AFL 9s is the AFL’s newest format and is a fast, fun and exciting game that involves 9 players on each team playing on a smaller field.  The game has been designed to encourage everyone to participate, with rules specifically designed to encourage female participation.
