Dogs v SUNS Cairns match on sale

Tickets for the Western Bulldogs v Gold Coast SUNS Toyota AFL Premiership match to be played at Cazalys Stadium on Saturday, July 12 have gone on sale.

Fans keen to see the Bulldogs and SUNS in action are urged to buy their tickets early, with another capacity crowd expected for this year’s game.

This will be the fourth Toyota AFL Premiership Season Match played in the Tropical North and the first time the Bulldogs have played an AFL match in Cairns.

Minister for Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games, Jann Stuckey, said the Toyota AFL Premiership Match in Cairns would provide Australians with another great reason to escape the winter chill.

“I extend a sincere welcome to the Western Bulldogs to Cazalys Stadium for the first time in 2014 and encourage fans to stay on after the match and take advantage of the many tourism experiences on offer in Tropical North Queensland,” Ms Stuckey said.

“The match has become a highlight on the city’s major event calendar over the past three years, attracting more than 11,000 spectators and contributing $3.7 million into the local economy.”

Western Bulldog’s star Jordan Roughead toured Cairns this week to sample the tropical climate and take in the sights before the July contest.

“I’ve loved coming back up to Cairns, it’s a beautiful town and the locals are extremely generous,” said Roughead.

“ The tourist attractions and love of football up here are extraordinary. I’m looking forward to coming back in July with my teammates and putting in a good performance against the SUNS.”

Western Bulldogs coach Brendan McCartney said the match will give Queensland fans the chance to see the team up close and personal.

“We see this as a great opportunity to connect with our fans from Queensland as well as those who make the journey up from the southern states. The team is looking forward to putting in a strong performance against the Suns.”

Gold Coast SUNS captain Gary Ablett is also keen to get back to Cairns for the fourth match, against a new opponent.

“We really enjoy travelling to Cairns and playing at Cazalys Stadium. We have had three exciting games up there and our record at Cazalys is really good. This year we are hoping to build on our good form in Cairns, this time against a new opponent, the Western Bulldogs,” Ablett said.
