Four Queenslanders will be among 111 players put through their paces at the AFL Draft Combine, starting today.
Four Queenslanders will be among this year’s crop of youngsters at the AFL Draft Combine.
One hundred and eleven footballers will be put through their paces, in a bid to impress recruiters physically and mentally, and put themselves in contention for an AFL spot.
Queeensland Under-18 players Jono Freeman, Archie Smith and Jarred Ellis will take part in the combine, along with Labrador ruckman, Fraser Thurlow.
To be invited to the combine, five or more AFL clubs must have registered interest in a player.
The players will got through a number of tests, both physical and psychometric.
Recruiters will also have a chance to interview players that catch their eye during the week.
Tests include the vertical jump, 20m sprint, three kilometre time trial, kicking efficiency and clean hands test.
AFL National and International Talent Manager Kevin Sheehan said the Draft Combine signals the start of a new football year.
“Representatives from all 18 AFL clubs will be in attendance to see the best young talent in the country and some of the best international prospects go through their paces. The testing is the final piece for club recruiters who have been following the players’ performances throughout the year ahead of November’s Draft,” Sheehan said.
A further seven Queenslanders will be heading to Melbourne on Friday for state screenings.
