QLD girls in AFL High Performance

Four Queensland Youth Girls footballers have been invited to attend the AFL’s Female High Performance Academy.

For the first time in 2013, the best Youth Girls players from across the country have been invited to attend the Academy camp to be held in Melbourne in February.

Queenslanders Tayla Harris, Maddie Prothero, Rachel Milns and Chelsea Ansell will be given the opportunity to learn from the AFL’s Talent and Coaching staff and former AFL players and coaches plus outstanding female coaches.

Next year, among the 22 players and 10 coaches invited to attend the academy will also be one Swiss player and a coach from New Zealand.

The 2013 program will feature football and position specific skills as well as nutrition, strength and conditioning and leadership sessions.

And in another first, players that show outstanding leadership and commitment to learning over the duration of the camp will be given the opportunity to participate in the first International experience for Youth Girls – an October trip to New Zealand.

The Female High Performance Academy is part of the AFL’s revamped talent pathway for female footballers which will eventually align with the AFL Academies for male footballers.
