Future Stars shine during draft week

Gold Coast SUNS youngster Jaeger O’Meara and Lions star Jed Adcock helped put some future stars through their paces yesterday as part of the NAB AFL Draft week program currently underway on the Gold Coast.

Players from the two clubs Future Stars programs took to the field at Metricon Stadium for a training session along with O’Meara and Adcock.

The under 12 Futures Stars program is designed for students who have been identified through school competitions or programs but not yet play registered club AFL.

Throughout the year, these selected players have participated in special skills training, camps and athlete development sessions.

Run in conjunction with AFL Queensland the Future Stars Program serves as the entry level for the Hyundai Brisbane Lions and Gold Coast SUNS talent academies.

Specialised training aims to assist players chances of competing at a higher level or simply to give them confidence to join their local AFL Club.

The 2012 NAB AFL Draft week activities continue today with a Cadbury AFL 9’s round-robin series being played at Metricon ahead of an informal BBQ dinner with Brisbane Lions and Gold Coast SUNS players.

It’s all in the lead up to the main event on Thursday night, the 2012 NAB AFL Draft.

The Draft is the second biggest event on the AFL calendar with over one hundred talented young athletes vying for a spot in one of the 18 AFL clubs.
