NAB AFL Auskick program for Palm Island

A partnership between AFL Queensland and the Cathy Freeman Foundation will see NAB AFL Auskick return to Palm Island after a five year absence.

AFL Townsville’s Peter Young, Keegan Tudehope and Adam McDonald visited the Island’s Bwgcolman State School and St Michael’s Catholic School on Monday to encourage students to participate in the program

The kids were told of the fun games to be played and the new skills to be learnt, as well as being shown the many goodies- including their own football – inside the Auskick bags that they will receive.

Enthusiastic student volunteers modelled the very stylish Auskick bags in front of full School Assemblies.

There were also plenty of hats and miniature footy’s handed out … but they were not so easy to earn! The excited students had to answer questions about the life of Cathy Freeman and name AFL players and teams to score a prize.

The Auskick sessions are set to begin on both Palm Island schools on October 29. AFL Townsville staff are very excited to commence the program which they are certain will be a hit with the young locals.
