Schools Surprise at Brisbane Lions Cup

The annual Brisbane West – Brisbane Lions Cup for primary school students in years 6 & 7 was held at Yeronga last week.

For the 20 school teams who took part it was a classic footy experience in terms of weather . First there was sunshine, then rain and finally … wind!  Despite the ever changing playing conditions the students that attended had a great day.

There were a couple of surprise packets which was reflected in the results. Runcorn Heights State School had an outstanding debut appearance in the Boys competition, winning their Pool and then pushing current State Champions, Nudgee Junior College all the way in a tight final.

Kruger State School took out the Girls Carol Berry Cup, also in a debut appearance at the Brisbane Lions Cup day. MacGregor State School finished runners up for the 4th year in a row.

Both Nudgee Junior College and Kruger State School will move on to the Pool Finals Stage, taking on the winning schools from Brisbane South East and Darling Downs regions.
