Redlands Bombers trio are giving back to the game through their local Auskick program
Redlands Bombers players Blaec Ablett, Robbie Jard and Jesse Double have gone back to their AFL roots as volunteers for their local school’s NAB AFL Auskick program.
The trio are donating their time to assist in the running of the Victoria Point and Faith Lutheran AFL Auskick programs, which see over 60 children playing AFL on the Redlands Sharks oval.
The players are aware of the need for clubs to be active in the community and feel that by volunteering time with their local school they are helping to promote the Redland Sharks junior AFL club.
Blaec, who himself went through Auskick at the Redlands Sharks in 1998, knows how important the AFL Auskick program is in the development of the children’s football skills.
“Getting out and about with the kids is great,” said Blaec.
“The basics of football haven’t changed since I went through the program 13 years ago, but the program has improved a lot since then.
“The kids all love the games we play and you can see how excited they are when they come down to the club for a kick.”
The benefits the children receive through the program have also evolved, with current participants receiving their own football, backpack, drink bottle, cap & football pump as well as a number of other giveaways.
“It’s great to see the kids taking their footballs with them to school,” said Ablett.
“They are all keen to get their footys out at lunch time and have a kick which shows how much fun they have at Auskick.”
