James Rozynski has bid farewell to the QAFL by winning the Western Magpies B&F.

Rozynski polled 71 votes to claim the Bill Peirce Medal from ever-reliable defender / forward Ed McDonnell (47) as the Magpies closed off their two-year stint in the QAFL State League before returning to the Pineapple Hotel Cup next year.

Rozynski’s B&F capped a standout year for the hard-at-it Toowoomba product, who also represented Queensland Country at the Australian Country Championships.

It comes on top of his Ray Poulter Medal as best afield in the 2008 Pineapple Hotel Cup grand final win.

That Rozysnki and McDonnell fought out the B&F came as no surprise after together they received 21 of the Magpies’ 32 votes in the Syd Guildford Trophy – McDonnell (11) and Rozysnki (10) – and were chosen four times each in the QAFL Team of the Week in a club selection total of 13.

Local junior Gerard Moore, who returned home after a stint with the Gold Coast in 2009, finished third with 31 votes, followed by Luke Scott (22), Jye Spencer (18), Richard Wenham (15), Val Pope (13), Greg Lavey (10) and Drew Friis and Drew Mitchell (9).

Rozynski also was judged ‘Best Midfielder’, while Cameron Mitchelhill took ‘Best Back’ and Luke Scott was pronounced ‘Best Forward’.

Moore also claimed the coveted ‘Brett Gwyther Award’, Spencer also won the ‘Most Consistent Player’ Award, and Conrad Hudghton was named ‘Rookie of the Year’.

Dan Moore, father of Gerard Moore, won the Senior Club Person of the Year for his fundraising efforts and cooking the match day BBQ every week. Todd Dunn was recognised for the senior player that devotes time and energy to the junior club with the Barrie “Phantom” Johnston Award for coaching the Sherwood Second U/16 Team.

Reid Dobson, who won the Bill Clerke Medal as the QAFL Reserves B&F, also won the Magpies Reserves B&F with 51 votes from 2009 Clerke Medalist Kale Reed (28).
