NAB AFL Draft: 10 days to go

The countdown is on to the AFL Draft, with just 10 days left before the next crop of AFL debutants is picked.

While those called out on draft night are on the precipice of a new beginning, draft week could also be the start of some other exciting AFL journeys.

As part of the draft week activities, some football beginners will have a chance to show themselves in a combine.

On draft day itself, it is the Gold Coast SUNS Talent Academy Search, for primary school football players (11 and 12 years old) and rookies, from 14-17 years.

Running from 10am-3pm the players will be tested in a number of disciplines, including the 20 metre sprint, vertical jump, beep test and AFL skills and drills, with a game to cap off the day.

Some players have already been identified to participate in this program, through school and junior footy, but players can register on the Gold Coast SUNS website.

Strong performers in this combine have the chance to be added to the SUNS Academy summer training program, potentially the first step towards their own draft journey.

As the draft ticks closer, Auskickers will have the chance to have a go at some of the tests, with a handball target, a vertical jump, 20m sprint and an agility run set up.

The Auskick combine will be held in the hour leading up to doors opening at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre, from 4-5pm on Thursday November 27.
