Registrations open for Long Walk to the Gabba

As part of the 2016 AFL Sir Doug Nicholls Indigenous Round, AFL Queensland will be partnering with The Long Walk foundation, the Brisbane Lions and the State Library of Queensland for the 2016 Brisbane Walk.

The Long Walk recognises and celebrates the historic trek taken by Michael Long on 21 November 2004, walking from his home town in the suburbs of Melbourne all the way to Parliament House in Canberra – more than 650 kilometres away – in an effort to get Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues back on the national agenda. The Long Walk provides a much needed public vehicle allowing Australians (Indigenous and non-Indigenous) to express their commitment to reconciliation and a united Australia.

Details of the Brisbane Walk:

Date: Saturday 28th May. Participants will be asked to meet at Musgrave Park from 8am, with the walk commencing at 12.15pm

The Walk: The walk will be from Musgrave Park to the Gabba

Registrations: The first 300 participants to register for the walk will receive a ticket for the Brisbane Lions vs Hawthorn AFL match and be invited onto the field during the pre-game celebrations (including a Welcome to Country and National Anthem), and a Long Walk T-shirt (to collect, you must attend the walk from Musgrave Park).

Registrations received after the first 300 can purchase a ticket at lions.com.au or at the ticket booths located on site at the Gabba.
