Mackay City Hawks celebrate 40 years

The Mackay City Hawks will celebrate their 40th year as a club this weekend with special functions on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Over four decades, the Hawks have completely transformed their nest into a fortress and have always prided themselves on providing the best facilities for football in Mackay.

Born back in 1977, the club is one of the region’s oldest and proudest, based at the Harrup Park Country Club in South Mackay.

It took a few years for the Hawks to spread their wings in the competition, but the seniors won their first flag in 1982 and have since claimed another seven premierships to become one of the competition’s most successful.

The young Hawks reserves also have 11 premierships to their name, highlighting the depth of talent the club has nurtured over the years.

The brown and gold now welcome players of all ages into their Nest, starting at Under 8’s and going all the way up to senior grade.

The Hawks will reflect and celebrate this when they host a 40-year reunion “Meet & Greet BBQ” on Friday at Quest Apartments’ rooftop garden before they prepare for Saturday’s blockbuster footy action against their old rivals.

Mackay City will host the Mackay Magpies at home for their round 13 clash as the Hawks continue on their quest to claim top spot on the Allied Pickford’s Cup Ladder.

The main game kicks off at 2:45pm, with an historic photo of the Seniors, Reserves and past players to be taken on the main ground five minutes before the first bounce.

Following the game, the club will host their long-awaited 40 year reunion function to reminisce with all those who hung their boots in the locker room and called the club home.

The reunion will be held at their famous Nest; the Lancaster Room at Harrup Park at 6pm.

The Hawks will also host a “Recovery/Catchup” function at Hotel Mackay on Sunday morning at 10am with all former and current Hawks encouraged to attend.

Congratulations to the Mackay City Hawks!
