Tuesday Talking Points

BnF

The Best and Fairest winners just keep on rolling in, and this time, it’s Tom Overington at Sandgate. Tommy O had a fantastic year in the green and red, becoming their most prolific ball winner through the middle, and someone who always played well in big games. Well deserved.

He’s done it again.

Just when you thought Jack Bowes year couldn’t get much better, he goes out in the NAB AFL Under 18’s All Stars Match on Friday and gets the most possessions for Team Judd. He finished the game, played on Punt Road Oval, with 23 possessions, 13 of those contested, three clearances, two score assists, and two marks… and it was all done right under the nose of recruiters.

Favourite son takes the reins

2002 Brisbane Lions Premiership player, Aaron Shattock will be the main man at Labrador next year, taking the senior coaching reins. Shattock, who was an assistant coach for the Tigers QAFL premiership winning team this year, also finished up his playing days in the yellow and black, so is very familiar with Cooke-Murphy Oval.

Redland swoop

While we are on the topic of coaching announcements, Redland has landed a huge fish, securing the services of former Brisbane Lions Development Coach Leigh Harding as their 2017 NEAFL Senior Coach. Harding, who is a life member of the North Melbourne Football Club after 141 AFL games, assistant coached at Werribee in the VFL for two years, before a three-year stint with the Lions. Ripping get for the Bombers.

Pick 2

The Brisbane Lions’ will take Pick 2 into the AFLW draft next week, after coach Craig Starcevich picked the number 2 ball out of the barrel down in Melbourne on Thursday. All eyes are now on who they pick.
