Dear Club Presidents,
Positive news today with the announcement from the Queensland Premier of the early commencement of Stage 2 restrictions. This announcement means club training can begin from tomorrow in a single group of 20 on one field at one time.
Following a submission that has gone to the Chief Health Officer regarding training in multiple groups of 20, we are hoping to receive clarification on this in the next 24-48 hours. In the interim, we ask that all clubs respect the one group of 20 rule and do not have multiple groups on fields at one time. We also ask that you revisit the Return to Training Protocol checklist and ensure all coaches and volunteers are adhering to the required protocols at all times. It is essential all of our Clubs follow directions at all times so as not to undo the great work our code has done to get to this point.
As part of our commitment to returning to training in Stage 2 and eventually competition, in a safe and well prepared environment, the AFL has prepared an online education course for key personnel at clubs. This short online course takes approximately 10-15 minutes to complete and has been designed to help consolidate all of the information you need to know on the protocols we are required to implement. Together with the Australian Government Infection Training for club medical staff, these short educational courses will ensure we are returning to safe and controlled play.
As part of the Return to Training mandatory protocols, each club must nominate a COVID-19 Safety Officer/s, who is deemed responsible for ensuring all of the necessary hygiene and safety protocols are adhered to within the club environment. The COVID Officer/s must complete the Returning to Community Football in a COVID-19 environment online course. It is also a requirement that your club medical staff (including doctors, physios and sports trainers) complete the Australian Government Infection Control Training. It is important to note, that whilst the COVID Safety Officer role is responsible for ensuring the hygiene and safety protocols are in place, they are not liable for any outbreak at their club.
We also strongly encourage all Committee Members, Coaches and Team Managers to complete these education courses. This will ensure your club is set up for a successful and safe return to training.
Upon completion of the AFL course, participants will receive a certificate to verify they have completed the training. We also ask that clubs keep a register of people who have completed the course. A register template can be found here for your use.
