AFL Queensland is excited to announce the rescheduling of our gala days for all Primary divisions, in our Premier State-wide School competition, AFL Queensland Schools Cup. Over 41% of nominated teams for 2020 were in the Male and Female Primary divisions and this new schedule allows these 4500 participants to continue striving to be the AFLQ Schools Cup Primary State Champions.
Teams will be able to nominate to play in gala days across the state with winners earning an invitation to progress to a State Championship Gala Weekend on the Sunshine Coast in late October. We look forward to continuing with the support of the Sunshine Coast Council to run this event.
Nomination and competition information can be found on our AFLQ Schools Cup Website. It will be important to get nominations in early to ensure your team secures their place in the new gala day schedule.
AFL Queensland CEO Dean Warren is delighted to see AFLQ Schools Cup live again in 2020. “It is a fantastic result to see our Primary Schools take part in the Cup again this year. In what has been uncertain times, it’s a credit to all involved that the competition is kicking off next month”, he said.
“AFLQ Schools Cup has a proud history of nurturing and developing some of the state’s best talent. We look forward to competition starting again in a safe, controlled environment, compliant with the required protocols outlined by the State Government”.
Unfortunately, due to the impact of Covid-19, AFL Queensland has made the difficult decision to cancel all of our AFLQ Schools Cup secondary competitions for 2020. We apologise to all the schools and their students for this unavoidable cancellation, but we are already planning to relaunch our premier state-wide competition in 2021. We hope to see all schools back competing then.
