RECORD NUMBERS SHOW AFL’S THE HOT GAME TO PLAY THIS WINTER!

McDonald’s South East Queensland Juniors have smashed their expected forecast for registrations this season, with a record amount of kids signing up to play junior footy.

Since the announcement that community footy was returning, over 12,000 juniors have registered their desire to play, meaning there will be 98 Footy competitions taking place from 10 July.  This is an increase of 10 competitions since last year, and 813 teams.

AFL Queensland’s State Manager, Kids, Growth & Diversity, Mark Ensor, is thrilled with the result. “We are really pleasantly surprised with the number of kids signing up to play footy this year. With the uncertainty over the last few months, it is fantastic to see us get back to the start of a season with such a huge uptake in registrations”, he said.

“Our Community Clubs have worked really hard to ensure that we are providing a really safe, well-prepared and informed environment for families to join. Kids will have an opportunity to join  part of a fantastic tight-knit community with a condensed season. It’s the perfect chance to give AFL a go and have more kids have fun and fall in love with the game!” Ensor said.

There will be 21 new teams fielded this year in the McDonald’s South East Queensland junior competition to accommodate the increase in registrations.

Kid’s programs are due to kick off from 10 July with Community Auskick programs and Footy4Fun competitions starting first, followed the week after with the commencement of the Youth Footy season. AFL Queensland will be releasing competition fixtures in a staggered approach, with the first four rounds of each program released upfront. This will ensure the season can continue to be agile should any adjustments be required.
