Page 5 - AFL QUEENSLAND FEMALE STRATEGIC PLAN
P. 5
2015 marks 100 years since the first recorded female AFL game was played. The progress of female football in the modern era has been remarkable and in recent times the extraordinary growth in female participation has changed the face of football in Queensland.
For the first time, AFL Queensland has put in place a strategic plan that sets out a number of core pillars for growing Australian Football in the Sunshine State and NSW Northern Rivers.
Among these core pillars, increasing talent and participation in female football has been recognised as critically important ,as we strive to engage our next generation of female footballers.
The 2015 census shows that female participation increased to 33% of total participation in 2015, with more than 70,000 females playing our game this year; an increase of 37% from 2014.
Queensland is proud to have the highest rate of female participation in the country. However, we recognise that there is more that we can do to increase our engagement with females.
AFL Queensland has made female football a key focus, and we have a vision to establish our state as the most appealing and successful state for female football in Australia.
The Queensland Female Football Strategy aims to build on our success so far. The initiatives contained in this plan will guide AFL Queensland and our stakeholders as we focus on participation, pathways for talented players and develop advocacy and an equitable resource plan for females in our game. These initiatives are explained further in this document.
This strategy is an important milestone which will see Queensland football substantially increase our engagement with females, in particular at community club level.
We are delighted to share with you the AFL Queensland Female Football Strategy. In partnership with the Queensland football community, we will continue to lead the charge in building a strong and sustainable future for females in AFL; on and off the field.
