U18 Div 1 Shield finals review

The Mt Gravatt Vultures have flown into the Under 18 Division 1 Shield grand final with a 30 point win over Aspley.

Aspley played good quick-running football in the first term, kicking 5-goals for the quarter to skip out to an early 2-goal lead.

Mt Gravatt woke up in the second quarter and applied pressure at both ends to bag five goals while restricting the Hornets to just 2 majors.

The half-time break saw the vultures hold a 7-point advantage with a sensational second half of football to come.

In a tightly contested third term only a 3-goals were conceded by both teams combined. Everything was to be played for in the final term with Mt Gravatt holding a slender 11-point lead at the final break.

In the last quarter Mt Gravatt’s bigger bodied opponents continued to work hard around the ground, and in the end, helped secure the Vultures another crack at the minor premiers Morningside.

For Mt Gravatt Leigh Stones was exceptional in front of goal, bagging seven majors whilst Jordan Roberts and Jayden Crawley’s work around the ground was fantastic.

Aspley as a team worked tirelessly throughout the day with outstanding performances from Jackson Gray and Nicholas Sculphur. Nicholas Jackson had a handy day with the boot, kicking four goals.
