QWAFL overtaken by Devils

Yeronga South Brisbane have monstered the competition in their first two games. Lions players Sabrina Fredrick-Traub and Kate McKarthy have put on a clinic, along with the consistent Emma Aeschlimann to give the Devils two big wins in two weeks.

Smooth mover

The Under 16 State Academy Championships finished up on the weekend and the Queensland state squad announcement will follow on Thursday. Showing some impressive signs during the carnival was midfield smooth mover Jack Wingrave, while half forward Bruce Reville and defender Ben Hogan also stood out.

All the way up . . .

Gold Coast under 16 prospect Josh Gore got ‘all the way up’ during the academy championships. So much so that this photo from Michelle Siebuhr, gives the impression that the Southport export, is up amongst the trees. Let’s hope that this isn’t the last speccy we get to see from the youngster.

East Bound and Down

The greatest haircut in the QAFL was identified in round two. Either Danny McBride has quit Hollywood and taken up football, or Surfers’ Mitchell Hopkins is channeling his spirit. Hopkins was fantastic for the Demons on Sunday, getting plenty of the ball in close and disposing with a poise more elegant than the haircut suggests.
