Pre-Season Cup kicks off Saturday

Senior men’s footy is back this weekend, and it comes in the form of the Alpha Sport Pre-Season Cup.

The three-week knockout event, starting on Saturday March 5, will be played throughout South-East Queensland.

32 teams from the QAFL, QFA North and QFA South, and QAFA (A) and QAFA (B) competitions will compete.

Teams have been selected based on 2015 results, and are split into four pools of eight teams each.

Each team will compete in their pool, with winners moving through to the next week of competition, concluding with a grand final day on March 19.

The Alpha Sport Pre-Season Cup will give teams an opportunity to play against rivals in their current competition, and other teams across different divisions.

Cooke-Murphy Oval will host a QAFL double-header, with all four Gold Coast teams set to play on the Labrador’s home deck.

The two QFA premiers of 2015, Mayne and Springwood, will lock horns at Yeronga on Saturday afternoon, following the Mt Gravatt vs. Morningside game.

The cross division pools means games such as Yeronga vs. Aspley and Wynnum vs. Caloundra can be played.

This is the only opportunity these clubs have to play each other this year, due to being in different divisions in the season proper.

The winner of each game Saturday will move on to week two. A fixture for those games will be released early next week.
