Lions & SUNS on track for ANZAC Day

The Brisbane Lions and Gold Coast SUNS reserves teams are set for a massive ANZAC Day clash at Harrup Park, after starting their North East Australian Football League (NEAFL) seasons in dominant fashion.

Brisbane started its championship defence in the best way against Morningside, running out 87-point winners at Jack Esplen Oval.

The Lions booted 12 first-half goals to lead by 49 points at the main break, quickly asserting themselves in the 2013 NEAFL competition.

Former Hawk Jordan Lisle led the charge for the reserves, playing at centre-half-forward, finishing with six goals.

The GC SUNS reserves had an even better start to their 2013 campaign, thumping Mt Gravatt in a 126-point victory at Metricon Stadium, putting them second on the NEAFL Northern ladder with an astronomical 493.75 percentage.

Former Townsville high jumper Josh Hall kicked four goals for the GC SUNS, while brothers Maverick and Lachie Weller were among the side’s best.

The two sides play cross-conference games this weekend, with the GC SUNS facing off against the Sydney Swans reserves and the Lions playing the UWS Giants.

The Mackay ANZAC Day Blockbuster kicks off 12:15pm on April 25 with the annual City vs Country match, followed by the Gold Coast SUNS Reserves vs Brisbane Lions Reserves at 2:15pm.

Tickets are available from www.mackaytix.com.au or Harrup Park.
