The AFL Women's National Championships are played biannually around the country.
In 2013, Qld will host the National Championships to be held in Cairns from 17 June to 22 June 2013.
At the 2011 Women's National Championships, the Queensland Women's team, the Sunfire, came out with a great result by coming third in Division 1 to ensure they remain in that Division for the 2013 National Championships.
Congratulations to Katie Brennan and Jo Butland who both made All-Australian Selection. Also congratulations to Emma Zielke who was promoted into the squad at a later date to attend the High Performance Academy. All the girls attended the High Performance Camp in Melbourne in mid July 2012 with a plethora of sessions to assist them in becoming the best footballer they can on and off the field. All played in the High Performance Academy game at Visy Park as well as being involved with the Women's Round celebrations at the MCG.
The Sunfire will be primarily selected from the State championships held over the Anzac day long weekend and also from club football.
