AFL is the national sport of Nauru, with roughly 30% of the population (boys and girls, men and women) participating in the sport annually. The tiny island nation, only 22km around and a population of 11,000, is AFL obsessed and very competitive on the international stage, with the men’s Chiefs team consistently ranked inside the best 8 teams in the world!
The Auskick program is rolled out throughout communities, teaching kids the basic skills of our game, as well as the importance of physical activity and the importance of women in our lives!
With many junior and senior competitions a year, and the newly developed National Talent Academy touring to Australia, plus a young crop of boys and girls ready to dominate the Oceania Cup every year, this tiny island definitely punches above its weight.
