2016 QWAFL fixture released

AFL Queensland today announced the fixture for the 2016 Queensland Women’s Australian Football League (QWAFL), which kicks off on April 23.

Round 3 offers redemption for Coolangatta-Tweed when they take on Coorparoo in a grand final rematch.

There will be four double-headers, the first in round 2, when Wilston Grange play Coolangatta-Tweed and Yeronga play Coorparoo.

Also featured will be six double headers of a different type, when women’s teams curtain-close for their respective men’s sides. The first takes place in round 3 when Coorparoo and Coolangatta-Tweed meet in the QFA South and QWAFL at Coorparoo.

Other key games early in the year include:

  • Yeronga get a chance to reverse the 2015 preliminary final result when they take on Coorparoo at home in round 2
  • Zillmere and Wilston Grange, who went toe-to-toe for a finals spot last year, will meet again in round 3
  • UQ get to show their improvement under new coach Damien Richards, taking on Wilston Grange in round 4

The home-and-away season finishes with a bang thanks to a final round triple-header, where all six teams will play back-back-to-back at Yeronga.

A bye after round 16 to allow for the AFL Women’s Exhibition Match will mean the four finals teams can recharge before the prelims.

Finals start on the 10/11 of September, with the grand final locked in for September 17, played directly after the QAFL grand final.
